The George is a stylish, modern space, designed to be the perfect place for creating memorable moments. From expertly-brewed coffee and freshly-baked pastries to dishes forged in the flames of our Open Kitchen, we have something for everyone, all-day, every day.

‘The George’ has been bringing people together at the heart of the Harpenden since the late 19th century. Now embedded in history, the name has retained its rightful place and transcended the test of time. Although the name is untouchable, we believed it was time to revamp this renowned venue. ‘The George of Harpenden’ is now the next chapter in this beautiful building’s history and, we think, the best yet.
 

Fresh, delicious food is at the forefront of our philosophy, and sourcing the best quality ingredients in a sustainable way is the first step to achieving this. We showcase this with our award-winning British & Irish beef which achieves its status through expert-rearing, masterful butchery and the meticulous inspection of every process from the farm to your plate.

Our fruit & vegetable partner Reynolds provide us with the freshest seasonal produce, whilst limiting their environmental impact. They do this with the increasing use of bio-diesel in their trucks and reducing plastic packaging where they can. They also ensure they have a clear view of every aspect in the supply chain, from seed planting through to delivery, which enables them to guarantee full traceability on all their products.

Heritage Breeds™ make sure our eggs are entirely free-range and farmed using traditional methods which ensure hen welfare and egg quality are impeccable. So, when you cut into that beautifully runny Eggs Royale or dip into our sizzling Shakshuka, you’ll see and taste the unique, deep-yellow yolk of a Copper Marans Hen egg.  

You can find us at 4 High Street, Harpenden AL5 2TB, just a short 2-minute walk away from Harpenden Station. There is easily accessible parking at Amenbury Lane Car Park, just a 5-minute walk at the rear of the pub. We are in a prime location with local trains running frequently into Luton, St Albans and London, so you’re not short of things to do after your visit!
